SMART Communications Inc. (Philippines largest telecom company) needs to be certain that its more than 6 million Smart Money card users can execute safe and sure online purchases via their cellular phones by presenting a mobile-based Internet security-lock feature.
This new security characteristic requires the cardholder to input a personal identification number via the subscribers’ mobile telephone to signify that an online-purchase transaction has been approved. Officials claim this online-security solution will help ease subscribers’ misgivings about Internet buys.

According to Danilo Mojica, Smart wireless consumer division lead, this will give cardholders more control over their Smart Money accounts, and shelter from deceitful online transactions. Moreover, account holders are notified via text messaging whenever transactions are cleared on their account.
Smart Money is a re-loadable cash account/card that grants users to conduct electronic money transfers, purchase airtime load, pay public utility companies, make micropayments and purchases, and engage in mobile banking with few clicks on their cellular phones.
It fuses the effectiveness of Smart’s mobile commerce service and MasterCard’s wide merchant acceptance network.
Up To Now, there are 25 million MasterCard enabled-vendors around the world, and the average increase for the mobile banking industry for this year was pegged down between 5 percent and 10 percent.
